Staff members of the FSPID chose Mr. Hugh Haughton as the Employee of the Year for 2009. Mr. Haughton was presented with this award at the FSPID’s Annual Awards Function on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Mr. Haughton, a graduate of CASE, began work in the FSPID’s Post-harvest Technology Unit as a holiday worker in the summer of 2007. After becoming a staff member of the FSPID later that year, he was transferred to the Microbiology Unit for a few months where he functioned as an assistant food storage scientist. He then served in the Entomology Unit and was transferred to the Rodent Biology and Control Unit in September 2009. Mr. Haughton has impressed with his diligence, his dedication to tasks at hand, his willingness and his ability to function in various posts.
1. What was your first impression of the FSPID?
Hugh Haughton (HH): That there would be a lot of work to be done.
2. What motivates you from day to day?
HH: The nature of the work, knowing that we play an important role in ensuring safety and wholesomeness of food and feed.
3. What is your work ethic?
HH: I am a diligent, hardworking person. Whenever I am called upon, I approach all work with a positive attitude and I’m always willing.
4. What would you say is your greatest challenge on the job?
HH: Whenever two or more units need me at the same time.
5. How do you feel being voted the FSPID’s Employee of the Year for 2009?
HH: I feel great, words can’t explain.
6. Any plans for the future?
HH: Yes. I hope to further my studies in something related to the food industry.
7. Do you have any words of encouragement to other members of staff?
HH: Continue the hard work and dedicated service that we offer and continue to live loving.
8. What is your wish for FSPID?
HH: That within this economic crisis, the FSPID will stand untouchable.
